Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry (Japanese: 劇場版 FAIRY TAIL ― DRAGON CRY ―) is a 2017 Japanese anime film based on Hiro Mashima's manga series Fairy Tail. It is the second anime film adaptation of the series after its first adaptation, The Movie - Fairy Tail (2012). The movie was released in Japan on May 6, 2017. There are two parts of this movie with "The Day Before" and "The Morning" labels respectively. The movie was announced on January 7, 2017, during the "Fairy Tail x Rave" event at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. The Japanese edition Blu-Ray and DVD were released on December 19, 2017. The film's theme song is by Ravex. It was released as a single on May 2, 2017. A short version of the film premiered in select theaters throughout Japan on May 6, 2017 while the full version premiered at AnimeJapan on March 26, 2017. Funimation has licensed the movie in North America which premiered July 28th at Anime Expo where Mashima was also present to introduce it to fans for the very first time before its theatrical release in August 6th 2017. In a world where Dragon Slayers exist to slay Dragons, Lucy is an anomaly in that she has the power to summon them. An encounter with a rogue Dragon leads her on a quest to save her city, but when she is reunited with Natsu and the others, their journey becomes one of recovering stolen Dragon Crystals and fighting off a massive army known as The Element 4. The film will be split into two parts titled 'The Day Before' and 'The Morning'. They will be released in Japan in May 2017 at a cost of 800 yen ($7) per ticket. A 2-disc BD/DVD set of the film will be released on December 18th 2017. The two minutes of new footage from the film at Anime Expo had been showcased by Mashima on Twitter. The CG of the film will be created by Production I.G, who had worked on Fairy Tail, and it will be directed by Tensai Okamura.
